Tips For Your Session

Newborn

I like to shoot baby sessions at 6 to 10 days old, while they are still very sleepy and easily posed.  Sleepy babies with full bellies are the best subjects for newborn portraits. We are a breastfeeding, bottle feeding, diaper changing, new mommy, and new daddy friendly studio!  A newborn session typically takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on baby's need to be held, fed, cuddled, and changed.

I have A LOT of baby props.... wraps, rompers, headbands, baskets, wood boxes, etc.  You might say I'm a prop junkie.  You really don't have to bring anything along, unless you have something special you would like to include.  We can talk about your home decorating colors, and your interests, and try to incorporate that into your session.

For the new parents, keep it simple.  Neutral solids are great, and black is always a good choice.  I have some options in my studio and we can chat about that upon booking your session. If baby has siblings you would like to include, let's chat about that as well.

Maternity

I love to photograph baby bellies at about 32 weeks. By this time, you will most likely have a nice bump to photograph, and you will hopefully still be comfortable enough to genuinely enjoy your photo shoot!  I have a selection of dresses and gowns that you will have access to, if you like.  If Daddy or other family members will be joining us, a solid colored, fitted T shirt or solid colored button down shirt is a good choice.

I am happy to include special items in your photos as well, baby's first shoes, gender reveal items, ultrasound pictures, your favorite storybook, baby's future guard dog...let me know what is important to you!

Family

Simple clothing, solid coordinating colors are best for families. I advise to stay away from bold, busy patterns. We can do family portraits in or out of the studio. I am really loving shooting families in my studio....for a more traditional "portrait" style. For a more fun, relaxed style, we can use the natural settings in and around Ashland.  One of my favorite locations for outdoor family sessions is the Northland College campus where there is a bridge, and a nice lawn with shade.

Engagement

Engagement photos sessions are the perfect opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you and your partner to get comfortable in front of the camera before your big day.  We'll do some traditional engagement poses, in and out of the studio, and then just have some fun where I can capture your personalities as a couple.

I have some favorite locations, and would love to chat with you more about places that are meaningful to you and your partner.
